Bluffs- Road Trip 05

Bluffs, oil on canvas, 10" X 8", 2008

I'm a little confused as to exactly where this scene is (you'll note that the map is zoomed out more than others), it was definitely part of a continuum of jaw dropping scenery. The heat wave is still on, and I'm still wrapped up tight to protect my sunburn.

The road along highway 1 is pretty, but kinda treacherous driving.

Jason,
Did you take Dry Creek Rd off 101 to get to hwy 1? If you did I feel your pain. That is what seems like the longest, windiest roads ever.

Great sense of light and depth in this painting. The variety of blues and greens in the water are fantastic.

Hi Justin,

Yes, I do believe I took Dry Creek Rd! It's even better with a smell of fresh ozone from your e-brake...

Thanks for the kind comment.

Part of the inspiration for my trip was your own last year...

Nice painting, Jason. Love the clarity of light and the "stepped" character of the overlapping landforms.

But I've just gotta ask...what's that on your head?? :)

Don,
Thanks for the kind words.

The "thing" on my head is a paper towel. It *was* the middle of a heat wave, after all, and it was about 80—90 degrees when I was painting, *and* I was wearing a long sleeve shirt.

I had to stuff a paper towel under my hat to keep the sweat off my eyes!

Paul,

Thanks! It was a blast!

I like this one a lot Jason. Nicely simplified to just the important stuff and the values look right on.

I'm glad you clarified what was on your head.

Thanks Frank, America was wondering what it was...
