Siletz Bay #2 (sold)

Siletz Bay, oil on linen, 10" X 8", 2008
sold

I went down to Lincoln City to spend a long weekend with my dad and girlfriend. There was a paint out scheduled, and this was my entry. Two hours, from 12:00 to 2:00.

The sun peeked out of the clouds for a bit, and I quickly keyed my colors up, which is why my painting's a little more saturated than the photo.

I've painted the Lincoln City area before, and Siletz Bay in particular.
If you look at the image in this post, you can see the beach I was sitting on in the painting above.

On selling out...

Awesome post from David Apatof on artists "selling out."

Something I struggle with, leaning more to a "sure, you betcha, I could do that for you" kind of fellow. While doing art for others to their specifications is perfectly reasonable, it's important not to lean over all the way to being consumed (as per the Monet story)...

Plunging Cliff (sold)

Plunging Cliff, oil on canvas, 8" X 10", 2008
sold

I promised more regular posting so I though I'd better deliver. :)

I went on a painting trip to Lincoln City, OR, and this was the first painting, done on the trip down from Seattle. This was probably the first painting I'd done in +4 months, and not only was I rusty, but the conditions were amongst the worst I've painted outdoors: windy and cold (even though sunny).

Still and all, good to shake the cobwebs off.

Here's a pic of my plein air painting rig:

Paper Airplane #13 (sold) • Where's Jason Been?

Paper Airplane #13, oil on linen, 5" X 7", 2008
(sold)

Hello to all!

It's been a while since my last post, and no doubt some of you are wondering where I've been, while others have forgotten who I am entirely...

It's been a very full last few months. The second coming of the Great Depression, A family tragedy, the appearance of a significant Other, returning to a full time day job (see Great Depression Mark 2 mentioned above). I thought that I could keep up a reasonable rate of blog updating, but I was kinda kidding myself.

I think I'm finally ready to return to semi-regular posting-- at least 2-3 times a week. For those of you who have signed up for art in your inbox, be prepared to actually see it arrive again.

For all others, at least the page won't always be the same when you visit.

More soon. Happy summer!

Jason
