Much cooler in Choteau this year than last. Lots of clouds, dropping rain, roiling across the sky.

Hoo boy. Very windy. I had to find a good spot to use the car as a wind break. I painted from the passenger side, holding onto the easel so it wouldn't blow away all the while.

Day two, and this is a scene close to where I was on this trip last year: Montana Road.
Clouds and sun combined again, but the wind definitely was a blowin'.

This is the first painting of my trip to Choteau, Montana this year for the 4th of July. There are 11 total paintings from this trip--all outdoors. The trip was amazing: family and fun abounded.
Beautiful day, clouds and sun combined, but not too much wind.

Eureka Reservoir (sold)

I got most of this on canvas before the proverbial hit the fan. It was cold and windy.
The thunderclouds in the painting above had siblings that were right above me.
This pic is the scene immediately behind me:

The Road to Pishkun Reservoir (sold)
There are a lot of two lane dirt roads in Montana, with wide rolling vistas. This scene was perfect for the long landscape canvas boards I picked up for this trip. The sun was hot until the rain cme in about halfway along through the painting. I waited it out and returned to the canvas.
I sort of stumbled onto the road to Pishkun reservoir by taking a right turn about 5 blocks from my girlfriend's parent's house in Choteau. The town is tiny, so it shouldn't have been a surprise that within 3 minutes of leaving the house I was in the middle of nowhere.

A beautiful day, but I'm still under the weather, so it's a view from the studio. Off to take a nap now...

Clouds (private collection)
Another cloud captured from the studio window. My head has been in the clouds as of late.
As promised, here is a peek at some of the larger kite pieces currently underway. The photos of the paintings need to be retaken (these are quick snapshots), but you get the idea. These are very different from what I normally do, and I'm not sure how they fit in with the rest of my oeuvre... hence the very different pricing scheme from what you'd normally see from me for a painting of these sizes.

Kite with Clouds (sold)
Second kite study for a larger work. Doing the study convinced me to shift this composition to a square format. The larger piece size is 30 inches X 30 inches. I'll post some larger piece shots tomorrow...
