Framing...

I just finished framing for a show at Brackenwood-- lots of pieces to assemble, details to finish.

5 X 7 paintings mounted to archival mat board, cut out by hand.
The jig I built to make drilling holes easy. I tend to work at set sizes, this is my way to standardize fittings-- which makes hanging groups of work a breeze.
Finished frame from the back...

...and from the front.

Show Announcement...

I've mentioned that I've been working towards a show this May: A Matter of Taste.
You are of course cordially invited to join me at the opening reception on May 4th in Langley Washington. :)

For those of you who won't be able to be there in person, a few more of the pieces for the show will be on the blog over the next week or so.

Guinness and Peanuts (sold)

Guinness and Peanuts,  oil on linen, 5" X 7", 2013
sold
A freshly poured Guinness has a creamy, frothy look. I went through several cans of the 'draught' version to try and come close to the right look. This picture is a little darker than the actual painting which shows that cloudy caramel gradation pretty well.
This piece is destined for the May Matter of Taste show at Brackenwood Gallery in Langley.

Study for Lunch (Apple)

Study for Lunch (Apple) oil on panel, 12" X 12", 2013
$400 USD framed
This was the original painting for the apple of Lunch. I am happy with it-- but the scale was off by comparison to the others of the quartet, and so I did the second version, which is part of the quartet today.

Lunch (Sandwich, Chips, Apple, and Milk) oil on 4 panels, each panel 12" X 12", 2013
$1600 USD framed

Here's the third and final installment of the Meal trio. This piece is destined for the May show at Brackenwood.

Sunday Studio Tour

Sarah Sedwick suggested I give a little tour of my studio. There's not much there there, but what little there there is covered with crap. (with apologies to Gertrude Stein)

I think I can almost touch left and right walls with my arms outstretched.

Close up on the easel.
The still life area, with a collection of dried bread used as props for various paintings. The grey piece of paper attached to the easel is used as a 'flag'-- a device to cast shadows that I can control.

Underneath the still life station is the music, both a CD/Radio player and an Ipod docking station with speakers.

Paint and brushes station-- canvasses and different colored papers are stored below.
Turning to the other side of the studio... drying paintings and inspiration pieces. At least two of Duane Keiser's pieces are in that mix somewhere.
A little more of the left side. My sliver of view, a few more drying pieces, and silverware props. I have quite a growing collection of knives forks, and spoons...

I mentioned Wednesday that I was doing a trio of paintings: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Each painting consists of four paintings. For Dinner there's an Appetizer, Salad, Entrée, and Dessert.

I completed this piece-- was happy with it-- but I felt the scale was off by comparison to the others of the quartet.

In Progress...

I've been working in preparation for a group show at Brackenwood gallery in Langley this May titled "A Matter of Taste." I had this idea of a trio of paintings arranged in quartets (was that too much math? It might have been for me): Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. I've got Dinner done already and just managed to finish Breakfast which for some reason felt like the bear of the bunch.

We'll see how Lunch goes.

You've seen a couple of studies done for Breakfast (egg #1 and egg #2), here's a few behind the scenes sneak peeks...

Eggy goodness.
I broke the yolk on the first one pulling it from the pan, so I had to fry another to have a complete yolk as a model.
Maybe not the healthiest of meals.

Finished off with a cup of coffee.
