A little break from the landscapes (just two more to go...) and then you'll start to see the series I've been working on that I just hung at Willows Inn on Lummi Island.

Rocky Mountain Front Valley (sold)

Rocky Mountain Front Valley, oil on linen, 9" X 12", 2012
(sold)
There's a stop on the road from Choteau to Augusta that talks about dinosaur bone finds at Egg Mountain.
Now, I've never seen any fossils, but at nearly every stop I paint at, I find some bones-- most often deer. This time I took a few vertebrae back for some still life work in the future.
This stop looks over a valley all the way to the mountain range 20-30 miles away. I usually paint on the other side of this valley-- closer to the mountains.
The detail in this piece is a little lost in the thumbnail-- I really encourage clicking on it to look at the larger pic!

Sketchbook Saturday

I know it's been awhile, but here's the return of Sketchbook Saturdays...

These were done in a hotel bar in LA a little while back during a business trip.

Virga Over the Plains

Virga Over the Plains, oil on linen, 8" X 10", 2012
$295 USD framed

For my first plein air painting of the season I originally set up next to a river (the Clark Fork in MT):

But that painting did NOT work, so it was wiped down. Next up was a really pretty scene a hundred miles away-- an approaching storm.

Shigoku Shell (sold)

Shigoku Shell, oil on linen, 5" X 7", 2012
sold
I know it's been a bit of time since the last post, but never fear, you're about to get a torrent of paintings!   I've been quietly working on a series of paintings inspired by recent visits to Willows Inn on Lummi Island, and the food of Blaine Wetzel. You'll see those start to appear along with plein air paintings from my recent trip to Montana.

This oyster shell, a Shigoku, was a remnant of a Willows meal.
