Breen's Del Rey, oil on linen, 5" X 7", 2010
sold
Normally too early for me (7:45 am), I got into town and set up before it got too hot. I had seen this Chevrolet Del Rey on day one in Choteau, and knew I wanted to paint it. Probably originally canary yellow, it's certainly faded to a faint pastel.

Mary Jo and I took a day drive trip up to Glacier National Park. The weather was cold, rainy, and at times very very foggy.
Beautiful drive.

Much cooler in Choteau this year than last. Lots of clouds, dropping rain, roiling across the sky.

Hoo boy. Very windy. I had to find a good spot to use the car as a wind break. I painted from the passenger side, holding onto the easel so it wouldn't blow away all the while.

A drive out to Pishkun wouldn't be complete without a cow painting or two. After I finished the hay bales, I headed back to town. I came across these Charolais who were kind enough to almost stay still long enough to capture. They're very curious, as you can see from the picture below. All these cows were much further away when I stopped and set up. They moved on in to see what I was up to.

Convinced I wasn't much of a threat, they moved on.
Before I was done painting, of course.

Out along Pishkun road. Summer's been a little cooler here in Montana this year, and things are a lot greener than last year.
What was amazing about painting here, was how loud it was-- the buzzing of flies was crazy.

Day two, and this is a scene close to where I was on this trip last year: Montana Road.
Clouds and sun combined again, but the wind definitely was a blowin'.

This is the first painting of my trip to Choteau, Montana this year for the 4th of July. There are 11 total paintings from this trip--all outdoors. The trip was amazing: family and fun abounded.
Beautiful day, clouds and sun combined, but not too much wind.

A revisit by request to a subject matter from about a year ago. This is your last still life for at least a week or two as your in for a slew of en plein air work from my trip to Montana over the last week and a half.
I promise to try and insert a few breaks for those of you who prefer the still life stuff!

Day of the Quick Draw, and the sun decided to shine in full force (it had been overcast and rainy for days...).
I got there early and did a quick color study, and waited for the time to arrive.
At noon, I set up in my spot, and with my support team of Mary Jo and my Dad, tackled my two hours.
At the end of the two day festival, the votes were tallied, and yours truly eked out a one vote win!
I got a glass float as a trophy and a gallery show in the city gallery at a date yet to be determined.
Thanks everybody who voted!
(I think my dad voted twice)

The sun climbed out of the clouds so I moved down the coast to Boiler Bay. Sun was out, but hoo boy was it windy.
