I wore this on New Year's Eve. Surprisingly comfortable, this is a plaster mask from Italy.

I'm a huge fan of Julian Merrow-Smith, and every now and again you have to try to get into the skin of your inspiration. Julian paints the most amazing figs I've seen...

This is a second painting of the batch of figs I bought down at the Pike Place Market. The whole basket ended up stuffed with bacon, goat cheese, and herbs from the garden, prepared to a recipe by Jerry Traunfield.

Smelt #3 (sold)
I've been painting small pictures of objects (and places) nearly every day for the better part of a year now, and I can say that by far, my favorite subject to paint has been fish.
They offer a wealth of possibility for observation-- a combination of reflection, iridescence, texture, and character.
These wee beasties had the whole house reeking. It's a good thing I live alone! I have family coming in the next few days, so these had to be painted now.
Thankfully, the rubbish is out, and off to the landfill.

Hussar (sold)
One of my favorite words: hussar. This is a small painted figurine given to me by my dad, who is nuts about 'em. It puts me in mind of the character Flashman from the series by George MacDonald Fraser.
Update 2/11/08: My dad writes to say that GMF has died... which is really quite sad. A great writer.
