I was under a time limit with this one-- I had to meet Mary Jo in about an hour, but I wanted to get at least one painting in for the day, so I set up on Jeff's motorcycle, and did a quick sketch.

We were in Choteau for about a week, and there were few days that weren't cloudless. Seeing this lone puff ball riding watch over the herd instantly suggested a painting to me.

Here's the first painting of my recent road trip to Choteau Montana.

I set up at a gas station/bar/casino along highway 200. Mary Jo went in for a meal and a drink while I hacked away at the canvas. It's one of the larger pieces I've attempted plein air, and a little ambitious for my first of the trip.

While the new moleskine seems harder to work graphite with, color pencils do alright.

Picked up a mannequin torso at a garage sale for 10 bucks. Figured it'd do for some figurative studies.
